These large elephant oil burners are carved from soapstone and finished with jali-style cut-outs around the body. The elephant design gives the candlelight somewhere to show through, so they do a decent job of looking interesting even before you add any oil.

Available in Burnt Umber, Plum, Black, Blue and Green, there’s a colour for people who want something earthy as well as those who prefer it louder. Add water and a few drops of fragrance oil to the dish, then use a candle underneath as directed.

They suit a living room shelf, a bedroom side table or the corner where the incense and oils tend to gather. Keep an eye on the water level while it is in use, and never leave a burning candle unattended.

These are properly decorative burners, not the sort you hide away after using them. The elephant carving and little jali cut-outs make the candlelight show through nicely, and the Plum and Blue versions are especially hard to ignore. Just remember the boring but important bit: don’t let the water dish boil dry, and don’t wander off with a candle burning.
